seeing stripes

I'm in the middle of designing a home for one of my super fun clients.  She has a early 1900's house but her taste is modern.  We've been able to integrate some of her modern tastes into a shell of an older home.  Having to make a lot of adult decisions, like what sort of practical sofa to buy with two young boys around, what tile for the bathrooms, where do install the cable for the TV, do you remove the fireplace?!  Decision decisions.
I've decided to take a break from all that and play with the kids rooms some!
Their rooms have been pushed to the bottom of the totem pole until we make all our grown up decisions.  But now it's time for the fun stuff!
Two boys, one is 2.5 yrs old and the other, well...he's not born yet!  But I've made room in my busy brain to start thinking about what direction to go with their rooms.  I keep coming back to stripes on the walls!  That is is start and then I'll get rolling with the rest of the design.  Some of my favorite looks vary from thin, to bold, to even on the ceiling!
Maybe a simple stripe is the new 'chevron' trend for 2012.

Rainy Days

It's finally kicked into rainy season!  I get to pull out my fave Hunter boots- they are pink, yes they are!  A wonderful shade of pink (which they don't seem to carry anymore).  Like a plum pink.  Anyway, I love trotting around town in my boots.  The kids seem to get a kick out of jumping in puddles and so do I!  Amazing how something so simple can bring us so much joy!

Cheers to a wonderfully {rainy} creative, idea-filled week!
jacket: J.Crew  boots: Pluie Pluie
Thanks to a good friend, I got these boots a couple years ago when I was prego with my son.  We actually used them as vases at his baby shower!  Now... they fit my daughter and she loves them!
jacket: Western Chief  boots: Hurley skulls
I feel like every 3 months I need to buy new shoes for these growing kids.  I think my son would dig the skulls.  Tough guy boots!  Ay Matey!

jacket: Zara  boots: Hunter wellies
I really need a new 'work' jacket to get me through rain season.  My previous casual 'mom' coats just aren't cutting it.  Can't show up to a meeting like a slob.  I really like the light colored coat.  Man, I need to step up my wardrobe! ; )
jacket: J.Crew  boots: Sorel
Oh, these would look so hot on my hubby.  Gear for a man's man.  Yum.
What am I missing?  A super chic umbrella?  Got any fave picks for your rainy days?

San Francisco Decorator Showcase House- 2012

I'm kicking 2012 off with a bang!  Over the holiday I got invited to submit a room design for the SF Decorator Showcase house.  I was so excited to get an invite!  In '06 & '07 I helped my previous employers {SMDS & JDG} design incredible bedrooms, as seen here & here.
What a treat to be invited 6 years later as a representative of my own firm!  I've come a long way and was so pumped to be a part of this premiere event.  To learn more about the history of the organization, go here.
Over the holiday I began brain storming ideas and really wanted to keep my focus on a kids room.  I love designing rooms for children!
Here is a glimpse at the presentation boards I created for the space(s).  (This year they asked everyone to submit two designs.)

*Selected concept:
16 year-old girl 'Teen Hang Out' Room

For this concept I was initially inspired by Christian Siriano's colors for Spring 2012.  The main focus is an over-sized vintage chandelier centered over a gigantic sofa pit!  Overall, the colors would be nude/pink with bold pops of persimmon and citron.  A little a-typical color combo but I'm loving it!
One of my favorite pieces, besides this chandelier, is the neon sign displaying a quote!  Now I just have to find someone to make me one.  wink wink...
With the room being subtle nude/pink throughout, I selected a very cool product (that dear friend has created) to use on the ceiling.  This will be a big Pop for the space!  Re-movable wallpaper!  She's fine tuning her website so stay tuned on that.  A guaranteed big hit!  (Heart pattern above)

Concept Board #2.  5 year-old Boys Bedroom
Not the big winner but I love the idea of installing a swing in a kids room!  Any takers?!
I have been eager to do a room with a custom bunk for quite some time.  The walls were proposed to be painted a vivid Indigo Blue!  Above the blue is a neon yellow stripe, then stark white carried onto the ceiling.    The bunk would be the statement piece, integrating Lucite shelves into the niche.  I sure hope I can do a room like this soon!
In our mad rush to finish, I completely forgot to attach the drape fabric and a couple images for furniture, especially the light fixture!  Oh well!  The drape was a neon green & blue geometric.  So cool!

The process for showcase:  Once you are invited, they give you a date where you can come by and see the home.  Basically, you get a sneak peak of the house and 5 days later you have to come up with conceptual boards showcasing your design plan for 2 rooms!  Two!  I wanted to provide a prospective drawing, floor plans, fabric samples, furniture, etc...
I felt like I was on a design challenge show!  In the past, I could pull an all nighter but not now being a mother, this girl has got to sleep.
I am lucky enough to have incredible friends who dedicated time helping me source product and most importantly create these amazing prospective drawings!  Wow, thanks Ladies!
Stay tuned for my process on making this space a reality.

The house opens April 28th, if you are in the area- def come by!

looking a little... nude

I didn't actually watch the Golden Globes this year.  I have only seen a couple of the movies anyway, so I never know who's who!  But I was sure to find out what all the ladies were wearing
I'm loving the nude color trend.  Especially since I just designed a room with that same vibe.
This nude pink as a neutral, it's really quite stunning if you ask me!
(I'll post my room in a future post).
Here are some of my A+ picks.

Elle in Zac Posen
Charlize in Dior Haute Couture
Jessica in Gucci
Guiliana in Basil Soda
Kate in Roberto Cavalli
Heidi in Calvin Klein
Mary J. in Michael Kors
Sarah in Dolce Gabana
Sarah in Pamela Roland

bubble bedding

I'm definitely seeing a trend here.  Searching for new bedding for my son I'm coming across a lot of texture in bedding!
Unfortunately, it's not gonna work for this specific project but I'm hoping to use it for something!!
It's perfectly feminine, simple & interesting.

Very excited for this line from sOUP.  It's my uncle's line that's picked up by Anthropologie and ABC Carpet & Home in NYC! Go check them out!

Have you seen Siriano?!

I am not one to follow high-end fashion trends per say but I do like to see what color trends are out there.  Fashion first, then interiors right!?   I saw Christian Siriano's new 2012 Spring/Summer collection and just fell in love!  I loved his unique color combinations, bright chartreuse, red, nude & platinum.  So fun!
May not be for every one but it's right up my alley!
I'm pumped with inspiration now for my room submittal for the SF Decorator's Showcase House.  Wish me luck!
I'll show you my progress while I'm making my boards next week.

Color Pops

I am just getting back into the swing after being out of town for 2 weeks.  My family & I had an incredible time while in Colorado for the Holidays!  I think I stayed a couple days too long, as we all reached the level of exhaustion towards the end.  We were very happy to back in our beds last night.
I am so excited for what's to come in 2012!  I enjoyed a very mellow evening alone the night of NYE and had time to reflect on the past year and what's to come.
I'm feeling very rejuvenated and refreshed starting out a New Year!

As I spent a lot of time inside during our snowy days in Colorado, it got me thinking of fun craft ideas to do with the kids.  A way for them to celebrate with sprinkles, confetti and all things bright and colorful!  All the color inspired me on how to integrate that into interiors or fashion.
color pop for the kids
Left over confetti, try making DIY Confetti accents for presents, birthday decor fun or 'just because'.
Sprinkle Pops- so easy, I gotta try these!
Refreshing Sprinkle Rimmed Milk for the kids (adults are allowed too)!
bright color pops for interiors
I adore the simple B & W with highlighter yellow stools.
Warm, cozy, bright white walls and an incredible neon throw on an Eames chair.
Just a Bright Door!  Love it!
I love this space.  A warm hallway with rich woods, a gallery wall full of Story and Pink upholstered chairs!

 color pop for me!
For me, a simple neutral outfit with browns & navy and PINK shiny shoes!  Puts a smile on my face.
How do you plan on bringing color into your New Year?!
