Our family tries to give thanks every morning as we eat breakfast.  It's our big meal of the day.  We aren't religious folks per say but we do try to expose our kids to more than just us, our immediate daily needs and wants.  For example, we want them to know where their food comes from, the animals, the farms, the farmers who grow the food and sell it to us. We want them to see the big picture.
For me, it's all about the kids.  Everything we do, eat, & breathe- is for them.  To make their life the richest and fullest that we can.  It's such a surreal experience being a parent.
We are THANKFUL for so so so so many things this year and for our new year approaching us.

My highlights:
  • Thankful for my husband being able to quit his full-time job and stay home to raise our 2 amazing children.
  • Thankful that my dream of running my own design business has flourished this year and I'm able to support my family.
  • Thankful that we have an incredible support of family & friends locally.
  • Thankful that we are healthy and Happy!
  • Aden says he's thankful for Monster trucks and Isabel is thankful for princesses.  It's all good.
I hope everyone is able to take a moment to be with their loved ones this holiday season and give thanks!

dew drops in the garden

It's almost Thanksgiving!  We are off to Colorado, my kids are so excited!  If there is anything to be thankful for, it's them!  I love seeing the world through their eyes as they live in the moment.
Today I'm looking particularly geeky in my bright flower dress and glossy violet Hunter boots.  My design assistant said she wouldn't be seen with me in this outfit!  ha!  Comfortable and ready for rain, it makes me giggle looking like a big flower garden.  Smile.

Interior Alchemy a home by Allison Bloom

It's always a treat to get a glimpse inside the home of a fellow interior designer.  This modern treat located in Marin belongs to Allison Bloom.  I remember the first time I saw it published in California Home & Design, I was thinking; I could live in this space!  Then I find realized it was designed by one of my peers who was also involved in the SF Dec showcase house this year.
We have since become friends and a powerful support duo for each other as we embark on our individual design careers.  I think her work deserves a little showing off don't you?

black painted floors

I've always wanted to try painting wood floors black or even a graphite grey.  Luckily, I found a cool new office space (more info on that soon!) where I'm able to try that out!  The space is rather raw so we have decided to do crisp white walls with dark floors.  Do we go high gloss or matte??

Something about the shiny black, marble fireplace, modern furnishings, and yellow juju hat- striking.

I can't wait to see how this all turns out.
I'll keep you updated throughout the process of my first office outside my home- before ---> afters!
This is just the first step.

a little bit rock & roll

I needed to kick some design presentation butt this week, so something about an old rocker tee, some black pants and ray bans made me feel like a tough girl.  I have been working with my uncle who owns an incredible home decor & bedding line called sOUP home.   I've been consulting with him on his business strategies for his West coast clients (one of them being a major retailer- exciting!)  and we had a huge presentation earlier this week.
Working with textiles has always been a dream of mine so this is super super exciting.  We rocked our presentation!  You can find his product here, here, here- check it out!

oh to live in a barn

It's Fall and it actually feels like fall this week.  When I think of Fall, I think of seasons, I think of growing up in Colorado.  I think of driving up to the mountains to see Fall leaves.  I think of eyeing old barns and imagining what it would be like to live in a refurbished one.  I think of bundling up in front of the fireplace and enjoying quiet.  Just Quiet.
But I live in a big City now, so no barns.  But it's good to keep your imagination going...for that day we stumble upon a cool old barn that needs fixing up.  We make it a fantastic space with a modern country vibe.  Yup, like this one.

This is a beautiful home designed by Rachel Halvorson, a designer based out of Nashville, TN.  The home actually belongs to Ronnie Dunn of Brooks and Dunn. I originally spotted the project here.  What an enjoyable space to live in!  The first image with the wood paneling and large black barn doors is to die for.  I can def see myself walking down that hallway in cozy slippers.  Yeah for Fall.

chalkboard paint...anything

So basically, if you chalkboard paint anything... it makes it pretty cute.   For wedding boards, kids tables, pumpkins, coasters and of course the wall!  Why is it so trendy right now?  Personally I'm not a huge fan of the chalk dust that lingers but I do love the ability to provide instant entertainment.  I imagine my chalk dust problem is a result from my 3 yr old boy playing space ship with the eraser.  Not to worry- he'll out grown that.

Painting coaster, fun for guests
Paint the dining room wall black-  write on it... or not?  Either way it has a dramatic affect.
A little touch on wood building blocks allows the kids to be more creative with castles.
Only painting the top of a play table
Holiday Cards!  Such an easy DIY.
Paint it pink!

copy cat challenge [1]

First let me say YEAH!  Today is a good day.  Post election day, I'm thrilled!

Do you ever have days where you glaze over staring at your closet full of clothes but have no idea how to pull it all together?  I feel like that most days, and honestly when you have two little children running circles (literally) around your feet as you get dressed- you know it's hard to focus on much of anything.  A few weeks ago I was flipping through my sister's Lucky Mag (pg.34)  and saw this adorable fashion pic.  I thought 'I have all those pieces, I can rock that'.  So there, new outfit=  done.
