Vintage Inspired Bridal Shower

One of the most monumental days of our lives is our wedding day.  Not only is the day itself magical but the time surrounding it is as well.  I found that the preparation and many of the traditions were just as exciting as the wedding itself.  There was something very special about the process of preparation, with our friends and our family.
This past summer, I was lucky enough to be a part of a group of girls planning an intimate bridal shower for our dear friend.   Typically held a few weeks before the wedding, the bridal shower is a sweet get together for the bride and her closest friends to reminisce and celebrate the exciting time for the bride-to-be.
Starting out in the planning process, we wanted something feminine but sophisticated and knew that the running theme throughout would definitely be Vintage.  The guest of honor Colette collects all thing vintage- clothing, cars, jewelry, furniture.  We loved the vibe and ran with it.
Hosted in one of our backyards, we used vintage linens, plates, silverware and glassware passed down from family.   We even hung old images on the exterior of the home.   We kept the floral arrangements seasonally and natural.

Floral arrangements were hand-crafted by us using an array of vintage vases we'd collected & inherited over the years.

Party favors were vintage linen handkerchiefs wrapped in a card  that was to be mailed to the bride with a sweet message.

Antique dish ware, stemware and flatware are all part of a collection one of us had passed down to her for generations.
As part of the spread we made chicken tarragon salad in lettuce cups , so good!
An incredible cheese plate of cowgirl creamery cheeses.
We greeted the guests with Strawberry mimosas, beautiful & tasty.
We kept our guest in the dark on the details, I'd say she was very surprised!

Cheers!

Traditional Home Napa Valley Showhouse Gala and Room Reveal

I can't even begin to tell you how much fun I had at the showhouse opening gala October 9th! It was such a relief to finish my room and sit back, relax, and enjoy the night. Guests had first look of the Traditional Home’s 2013 Napa Valley Showhouse while enjoying food, wine, and films. It was such a hit! I even got to go to dinner with Anne Maine, Editor in Chief of Traditional Home magazine. What a great time -- I'm still smiling.

You can find pictures from the gala on Traditional Home's Facebook page here. I'm also sharing photos from the sitting room I designed. Couldn't be happier with the results! The green ceiling turned out even better than I imagined. What do you think?

Big Sur Weekend

A few weekends ago we went to Big Sur for a friend's wedding.  If you haven't travelled to this part of California, you are missing out!  It's a region located off the central coast of California where the mountains meet the ocean. Let me tell you, the views are absolutely stunning.  It was my first time actually staying overnight and I believe me, I soaked up every second.  My husband and I were able to take this trip without kids (which is rare, thank you to my mom & sister)!
Forgoing the typical hotel stay, we opted to stay in a vintage airstream trailer.   The trailers were tucked in the woods on a very private piece of the mountain side.   Ours had been completely restored for the full "glamping" experience.
Our little trailer for the weekend.
Friday evening we ate at a new local restaurant- Glen Oaks Roadhouse, run by Chef Matt Glazer. I was impressed with the interiors and California infused Cajun food was delightful!

Saturday- The beautiful couple were married at Pfiffer State Park.  The image below was taken by Brittany Esther Photography as Colette's best friend escorted her towards the ceremony site.  It feels so magical there, I can't wait to see more wedding images!

Just married!

After the ceremony, the wedding reception followed at Big Sur Bakery.  The ambiance & food was perfection!

As a farewell send off to the bride & groom we said good-byes Sunday morning at Cafe Kevah.  The Views, the views.... Photos hardly do it justice.

I can hardly wait to go back!  We didn't have enough time to do half of what we wanted;  hiking, exploring caves, beaches & Henry Miller library.  I've driven through Big Sur many times as a kid, it was a treat to come back and really spend time here.
Def a Must See spot in California!

Target Does it Again

Between the Threshold and Nate Berkus line, Target has enough well-designed items to furnish an entire house. They've got you covered from your bedding, bath, kitchen & living room with amazing selections. Season after season it never ceases to amaze me how good each piece is plus they are incredibly affordable.  Usually the entire collection is under $100!  I love making a trip to Target during each project installation, my clients are always amazing at the little treasures I find from there.  Of course, I usually pick up a few great pieces for myself also!  Have you checked out the newest Nate Berkus designs?  Be sure to go take a look for yourself, photos do not do it justice.  The marble lamp and trays are a couple of my favorite pieces from the entire collection.

Halloween Fun

Can you believe Halloween is right around the corner?  As a kid I remember planning my costume months in advance until every detail was just perfect.  My parents always encouraged us to use items around the house.   I've been a butterfly, a pair of dice (out of a box & spent the entire holiday walking around with my best friend so we remained a 'pair') or more recently a Neon super hero!

Now that I'm a mother myself I want to carry on the tradition and give my kids the same experience that I had. The last few years we have dressed up as a family but our kids are getting old enough that they don't necessarily want to do the same things as us. ; (  Here are some really cute DIY couples costumes that we might try.

Jordan of Oh Happy Day always has the cutest kid costume ideas on her blog. This year's theme was fashion icons. She pretty much nailed it with the Iris Apfel costume. Too cute!! Last year's theme was artists which are so fun.

Does your family dress up for Halloween? What are some of your favorite costume ideas?

Can't seem to get any good shots of us on Halloween, but here are a few from years past.

You're Invited!

Over the past few weeks I've shared with you the inspiration here and here behind a project I'm working on with Traditional Home, and the official reveal date has finally come!  Today is the day of the Gala for Napa Valley Showhouse and you are all invited!  Traditional Home magazine partnered with Charles Krug Winery for the second-annual Napa Valley Showhouse. I was selected along with nine other designers to transform Peter Mondavi Jr.’s former private residence into a stunning design showcase. The room I designed is "Her  Elegant Escape"used as a sitting room.  This evening we're holding a gala to reveal the designs of all of the designers.  Food from top chefs and wine from Charles Krug will be available and you'll also have the chance to preview films showing at the Napa Valley Film Festival.  Tickets to the Gala are $75 each. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.  Proceeds go towards the Napa Valley Film Festival.

If you can't make tonight you'll have plenty of opportunities to tour the showhouse and receive exclusive access to the Peter Mondavi Sr. historic renovations of the Charles Krug 1872 Redwood cellar which is open to the public Thursday, October 10 – Sunday, November 17.

I'm thrilled to finally share it with you guys! Hope you like it :)
